Position Overview

AfriCatalyst is seeking a highly skilled Grants and Finance Coordinator to strengthen financial oversight and performance across its project portfolio. The job holder will play a critical role in bridging project operations and the Finance & Accounting function by establishing robust financial management systems, improving cost tracking and reporting, and ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager, Accountant, Internal Auditor, and Project Team, the Coordinator will enhance financial transparency, accountability, and efficiency across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management of Grants and Contracts

  • Oversee the financial management of grants and service contracts, including budget tracking, expenditure monitoring, and fund traceability.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and donor requirements.
  • Prepare and submit accurate financial reports in line with partner expectations and deadlines.
  • Ensure alignment between accounting records and financial reports in collaboration with the Accountant.

Financial Planning, Modeling, and Analysis

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, financial models, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the Finance and Accounting team.
  • Conduct variance analysis (budget vs. actuals) and provide actionable insights.
  • Support financial structuring of projects and funding arrangements.

Accounting

  • Perform transactions analysis, process account postings, and post account entries.
  • Perform accounts analysis and produce monthly reconciliations reports.

Financial Performance Monitoring

  • Design and implement a structured framework for monitoring project financial performance.
  • Develop dashboards and tools to track key financial indicators (revenue, expenses, forecasts, KPIs).
  • Provide regular financial insights to inform project and management decision-making.

Cost Accounting and Reporting

  • Implement cost accounting systems at project, program, and activity levels.
  • Strengthen the quality, reliability, and traceability of financial data.
  • Support the preparation, review, and validation of financial reports.

Analysis of Funding Agreements

  • Review funding agreements (grants, service contracts, co-financing arrangements, etc.).
  • Identify financial, administrative, and compliance implications.
  • Provide guidance to project and business development teams on financial requirements.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Identify financial risks related to project implementation and propose mitigation measures.
  • Strengthen internal control systems in collaboration with the Internal Auditor.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, donor policies and regulations, audit standards, and applicable laws.

Systems and Process Strengthening

  • Design and implement tools and processes to improve budgeting, financial management, and reporting.
  • Document financial workflows, roles, and approval processes across the project lifecycle.
  • Support the digitization of financial monitoring systems to improve efficiency and data quality.
