Senior Back-End Engineer (Java)

Our client is seeking a Senior Back-End Engineer (Java) to join a fully remote team. This role is suited to an experienced backend engineer who is highly proficient in Java/Spring and comfortable working in an AI-augmented development environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring

• Architect scalable API layers and backend systems

• Build and enhance production-grade backend features and services

• Contribute to system architecture and technical decision-making

• Work with AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency

• Identify technical risks and implement robust backend solutions

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production systems

• Ensure high-quality code through reviews, testing, and best practices

Requirements:

• 5years’ backend development experience

• Strong Java and Spring framework expertise

• Experience designing and building scalable backend systems

• Hands-on experience with API design and system architecture

• Familiarity with NoSQL/document databases (e.g. Couchbase or similar)

• Strong problem-solving and ownership mindset

• Experience working in production environments with real users

Advantageous:

• Experience with AWS and Docker

• Exposure to DevOps practices

• Experience using AI development tools in day-to-day workflows

• Understanding of distributed systems and performance optimisation

Additional Information:

• Location: Remote (South Africa)

• Salary: ~R90,000 CTC per month

• Role requires completion of a technical questionnaire prior to submission
