Technical Services Manager

A well-established and reputable food manufacturing company specializing in high-quality food production and regulatory compliance, is currently seeking a experienced and driven Technical Services Manager to join their team in Montague Gardens, Cape Town.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all technical and food safety functions within the manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, quality assurance requirements, and regulatory obligations across the business.

Responsibilities

• Oversee QA, QC, SQA, Microbiology, Food Safety, and Regulatory functions.
• Proactively identify and mitigate food safety and quality risks.
• Ensure appropriate diagnostic testing of food products prior to customer release.
• Manage non-conforming products and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Supervise technical department staff and ensure efficient operational outputs.
• Manage the department’s operational budget.
• Coordinate GMP and internal audits to meet certification body, customer, and company requirements.
• Liaise with internal divisions and subsidiaries regarding food safety and quality matters.
• Ensure the effective execution of QA functions, including approval of new raw materials following testing and risk assessments.
• Oversee in-process QC checks, final product testing, and issuing of Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
• Conduct root cause analysis on out-of-specification products and implement corrective actions.
• Manage the Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) risk register and arrange on-site audits where required.
• Collaborate with the New Product Development team and provide technical support.
• Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to management.
• Advise management on occupational health and safety risks and corrective measures.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in BSc Food Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a middle to senior management role within a food manufacturing environment.
• Proven managerial experience overseeing technical laboratory and food safety functions from raw material receipt to final product release.
• Strong knowledge and experience maintaining food safety certifications such as BRC and FSSC 22000.
• Experience in managing operational budgets and technical teams.
