We are a rapidly growing international beverage chain launching in Uganda. We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our rollout and daily management in Kampala. You will be the bridge between our global brand standards and the local market execution, ensuring profitability and operational excellence in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-Site Operations: Oversee the daily operations of all outlets in Kampala (with planned expansion to Entebbe and Jinja). Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene, and SOPs, particularly managing the challenges of tropical climate storage and intermittent power supply.
- P&L & Financial Management: Manage the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the region. Navigate local currency (UGX) fluctuations, control COGS (Cost of Goods Sold), and optimize inventory to minimize waste and spoilage.
- Supply Chain & Logistics: Manage local procurement of fresh ingredients (dairy, produce, packaging). Coordinate with clearing agents and freight forwarders for imported raw materials to ensure supply continuity despite local logistical hurdles.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead recruitment, training, and retention of local store managers and crew. Manage labor costs effectively while maintaining high morale in a high-inflation economy. Implement structured training programs (Management Trainee Program).
- Sales & Localized Marketing: Drive sales targets through local activations. Adapt global marketing strategies to the Ugandan consumer base, leveraging digital platforms (TikTok, Instagram) and local influencer partnerships.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3years in multi-unit F&B operations (QSR, Coffee, or Bubble Tea preferred). Experience in East Africa (specifically Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania) is a significant advantage.
- Language: Fluent English is mandatory. Proficiency in Luganda and/or Swahili is highly advantageous for local stakeholder management.
Skills:
- Strong P&L accountability and data-driven decision-making.
- Proven ability to manage local staff effectively in a startup or scale-up environment.
- Problem-solving skills related to local infrastructure (power/water backup, supplier negotiations).
- Valid Ugandan work authorization (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Tech Savvy: Comfortable with POS systems, inventory management software, and basic reporting tools.
