Skipper

Sea Harvest Corporation is looking to employ a Skipper to join their Fleet sailing out of Saldanha Bay.
POSITION: SKIPPER
REPORTING TO: FAS FLEET MANAGER
PURPOSE: To oversee the operation of the fishing vessel, ensuring the safety of the crew, managing the fishing activities, and navigating the vessel to optimal fishing grounds.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
• SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL AUTHORITIES
➢ Total compliance with safe manning, all SAMSA, Maritime OSH, Class regulations and requirements.
➢ Compliance with Company watch keeping procedures
➢ Legal Compliance to Fishing Regulations and Permit conditions
•VESSEL OPERATIONS & EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
➢Ensure that all machinery and equipment are maintained and kept in a good working condition to guarantee continuous and effective operations.
•FISHING PERFORMANCE
➢Ensure care and maintenance of fishing gear and equipment.
➢Ensure that due care is practiced when fishing on hazardous fishing grounds.
➢Ensure that fishing and production targets as defined are met.
•QUALITY & COST CONTROL
➢Ensure that defined quality standards are met and maintained.
➢Vessel operating within allocated budgets.
•CREW MANAGEMENT & TRANSFER OF SKILLS
➢Ensure that discipline is maintained.
➢Foster & promote a harmonious working environment
➢Prioritize the transferring of skills by officers and managers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
•Fisherman Grade 2 or Skipper Fishing> 24m (Limited Waters)
•Valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (unrestricted)
•Valid STCW documentation
•Proven track record of Hake Bottom Trawling Fishing ability
•Experience as a Freezer Trawler Skipper
•Personnel management and safety awareness
•Fluent in the English language, both spoken and written.
•Able to follow company instructions and procedures
•Ability to motivate
